Three Things Creators Must Know When Building a Digital Presence

Building a business is one of the biggest rollercoaster rides one can experience.

The ups, the downs, the twists and turns, and the never-ending adrenaline rush and excitement.

As a creator, you may already have a product or services in hand, ready to sell. And if not already in hand you may very well have the idea and you are now planning a strategy that will get it out to the world.

But getting it out to the world is not as easy as some may think. In fact, there are several things that are certainly worth keeping in mind, particularly when it comes to building an online presence.

Why an online presence?

Well, whether you are a fan of the digital world or prefer to keep your distance, and whether you are a b2b or b2c, consumers today practically live online. So, understanding how to reach your audience and place your product or services in front of them is crucial.

Now, this is not to say that every other form of marketing is irrelevant and it’s time to forget about traditional marketing. Not at all. What it does mean though is that whether you are in the early days of building your brand or simply revamping it, there are certain things that are worth noting and implementing.

So, when it comes to building an online presence, here are three tips for creators.

Target Audience

You have likely heard of this one before and it is certainly one worth keeping in mind. We mentioned that having a product or services and telling the world about is not that simple.

The reason it is not that simple is because telling the world about it will likely not bring you the success you are looking for. Reason for that is, your product or services are not for everybody. Now, that may sound a little negative but trust me, it’s not. In fact, one of the most important things one should keep in mind is that their products or services shouldn’t be for everybody.

Reason for that is simple yet complex. What you are offering is a solution to a problem, right? Or if not a solution, it’s an offer. But what you offer, not everybody needs or wants, so the goal needs to be finding the people who do.

So, when building an online presence, it is key that one understands their target audience – who are the people that need the product and most important, where are they. Understanding where they are and how to find them will save you lots of money down the road.

When designing a target audience, several categories to consider include age group, gender, location, and interests of the audience. This of course all takes time and research but is no doubt a crucial part of the journey and business.

It’s you it’s not your services

Much like the marketing world has changed over the years, so has consumer behaviour. People no doubt still need and want to buy things but with so many more options and what seems like less time, people want things quick but even more important, they want it from someone they can trust.

That trust between a creator and their audience is built over time and is certainly worth every minute of your attention.

In today’s world, with so many social media channels, options, and online noise, people, more than ever, don’t only want a good product but above that, someone to connect too. That is done by showcasing yourself, your personality, and your passion. Show people why you do what you do and have them connect to you. Once they connect to you, they will better connect to your offer

As a creator, you have likely been working on your idea and business for a while. We are all guilty at times of the following so here’s something to keep in mind. Most people will not know and likely won’t understand what you do. And they shouldn’t. As a creator and business owner your mindset always needs to be education. Help people understand the solution you offer and why they need it. Educating prospects and the public will not only help you build trust with your audience, it will also present you the opportunity to showcase yourself as an industry leader. That can be done through blogs, stories, forums, and other methods.

Lastly, patience.

As creators, we often want things done right this moment and we want to see immediate results. However, building an online presence and getting results is not an overnight success. It is a marathon that requires patience, consistency, and positivity.

Goodluck with building the foundation and enjoy the journey.
